How 1208 Host collects and uses personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Who we are
1208 Host provides web hosting, domain registration and email hosting in South Africa. You can reach our information officer at hello@1208host.co.za.
What we collect
- Details you give us: your name, business name, email address, phone number and billing address.
- Messages you send through our contact form, email, phone or WhatsApp.
- Account and service records: the services you use, invoices and payments, and support history.
- Domain registration details, which registries require and may publish in their WHOIS records.
- Technical logs from our servers, such as IP addresses, kept to run and secure the service.
How we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and set up the services you order.
- To bill you, provide support and send service notices, such as renewal reminders.
- To keep our network secure and meet our legal obligations.
We don't sell your information. We only send marketing email if you have agreed to receive it, and every message has an unsubscribe link.
Who we share it with
Only the providers we need to run the service: domain registries and registrars, payment processors, and our data centre and backup providers. Each is bound to protect your information.
How long we keep it
As long as your account is active, and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Contact form messages that don't lead to an account are deleted after 12 months.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Email hello@1208host.co.za. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.
